The Sarah Morthland Gallery is located in The Whitehall Building at 511 West 25th Street, Suite 609 (between 10th and 11th Avenues) in New York City. The gallery is open by appointment only. To reach the gallery by subway: the C or E train to 23rd Street and 8th Avenue, walk two blocks west to 10th Avenue, then two blocks north to 25th Street, make a left on 25th Street and The Whitehall Building is on the right (the north side of the street). One of the pioneers in the Chelsea art district of New York City, Sarah Morthland Gallery specializes in vintage and contemporary photography. Upon opening her doors in 1996, the gallery became a prominent establishment in the Chelsea neighborhood. Ms. Morthland is highly regarded as an expert in vintage 20th century photography, having begun her career at the Center of Photography in Woodstock, New York in 1977. She subsequently became the director of the Howard Greenberg Gallery in Soho and served in that post for nine years. During her tenure at the Howard Greenberg Gallery she also founded and was the director of Gallery 292, an intimate space inspired by Alfred Stieglitz's famous 291Gallery. Currently, the Sarah Morthland Gallery is no longer open to the public however the gallery continues to represent vintage and contemporary photographs by various artists and provides consutling services.
