March 27 - May 10, 2003
Gallery Hours: Wednesday-Saturdays 11:00/5:30
New York - Sarah Morthland Gallery is pleased to announce
an exhibition of recent color photographs by Rose Marasco
entitled Circles. The exhibition begins on Thursday, March 27
and continues through Saturday, May 10, 2003. There will be
a reception for the artist on Thursday, April 3, from 6-8 pm
at the gallery.
With the Circles series, Rose Marasco continues her exploration
of light as well as her use of found objects as her central subject
matter. Carefully placing the objects to form complex shadows,
patterns, and silhouettes, Marasco often uses light cast from her
living room window to add an extra element to her compositions.
This creates a subtle tension, making the viewer question their
perception of what they understand the objects to be, and the
surroundings in which they are placed. Marasco's world is one of
luminous color and humble objects that possess their own life,
presence, and individuality.
Rose Marasco lives and works in Portland, Maine and is a professor
of Art at the University of Southern Maine. During the photographer's
extensive career, Marasco has had solo and group exhibitions
throughout the Northeast and abroad, as well as receiving international
art grants. She has authored articles in photographic journals, notably
Exposure, and has been published as part of numerous catalogue essays.
The Sarah Morthland Gallery is located at 511 West 25th Street, Suite 709,
between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues in Chelsea, New York, NY, 10001.
The gallery is open Wednesday - Saturday, 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
